World Water Day 2019: Leave no one behind

Here we are again with another exciting holiday to celebrate. Easter? Valentine’s Day? Not this time. The holiday we’d like to tell you about is closer to our hearts than any other: World Water Day!

At the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, March 22 was designated to be World Water Day. Since 1993, it has been an international day to celebrate freshwater, and to help bring awareness of the debilitating problem many people in the world still battle every day.

Where Water Flows, Money Goes!

Dropping our kids off at school on our way to work, shopping, and keeping the house clean can seem like a load of trouble! It’s easy to forget how fortunate we are to have access to fresh water, but without it, our lives and the way we live would be impossible.

Today, 2.1 billion people still lack access to safely managed clean drinking water. In fact, the UN estimates that Sub-Saharan Africa alone loses 40 billion potential work hours per year because people are so busy collecting water! This lack of accessible fresh water isn’t only bad for bodies and minds, but it affects the global economy. If more people had access to fresh water, there would be more opportunities for education, meaning more jobs and money to flow around the globe!

What Can We Do to Help?

The scope of the water problem can make us feel as if there is nothing we can do to make things better—but there is!

Through our partnership with Generosity.org, when you purchase a Gululu water bottle, not only are you starting your child on a healthy life path but you are also helping provide children in a third-world country access fresh water for life!  Last year we launched The School to School Programdesigned to connect students in the US with schools in developing countries. This program educates students on social responsibility and creates fundraising campaigns to build more water projects for partner schools. The first program funded a water project for students in Peru - check out our video here: School to School Program Video.

For us at Gululu, “Water = Life.” We are committed to bringing sustainable fresh water to children across the globe and creating healthy water-drinking habits in kids, for a better life, and a better future!
